Another print by Jacques Callot – French, from the early 1600s, depiction of theatre masks. Not specific to Venice, but important to the basis of how masks designs originated and circulated.

Found this website with a few explanations of the symbolism commonly used in art for Mary. Presumably there’s other symbolism on this website as well, but this was most relevant to our classroom discussion.
